Understanding How Dental Veneers Work

Dental veneers are thin porcelain covers that are bonded to teeth to hide imperfections and enhance the aesthetics of your smile. Dr. Miely doesn't just apply veneers; he crafts your new smile by paying close attention to every detail. From the shade to the shape! This artistic approach guarantees that your veneers will complement your skin tone, facial features, and overall smile symmetry to make them look and feel just like your natural teeth.

Why porcelain?

Thanks to its durability and close resemblance to our natural teeth, we often recommend porcelain over other types of veneers. Porcelain is also specifically resistant to stains and chipping.

Are Veneers Right for Your Smile?

If you’ve been curious about enhancing your smile, our custom-made porcelain veneers might be the treatment you’ve been looking for. Here are just a handful of issues that this procedure can address:

  • Stubborn stains
  • Chronic discoloration due to medication or medical conditions
  • Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
  • Misshapen, crooked, or uneven teeth

Your Smile Enhancement Experience

During your free consultation with Dr. Miely, he’ll complete a thorough exam of your teeth, gums, and bone structure. He’ll also ask you about your concerns and answer any questions you might have.

If we agree that dental veneers are the right treatment for you, we’ll continue with the following:

  • You’ll be provided with patient amenities and dental sedation options, if desired, so that you can have a calm experience in the dental chair.
  • Dr. Miely will apply a local anesthetic to the affected area of the mouth and then remove a small amount of enamel to make space for your veneers.
  • Next, he will take impressions of your teeth to share with our dental lab.
  • When your dental veneers are ready for placement, you’ll return to our office.
  • If you’re happy with the look and feel of your restoration, he’ll permanently affix the veneers by exposing them to UV, that will harden them to your tooth.
  • Lastly, you’ll leave our office that day with a gorgeous, even, and white smile!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do dental veneers last?

With proper care, porcelain veneers can last for 10 to 15 years or even longer. They are highly durable, but they can chip or crack under excessive pressure. To protect your investment, we advise you to avoid biting down on hard foods, ice, or other objects.

Are veneers reversible?

No, dental veneers are a permanent cosmetic solution. To apply the veneers, a small amount of enamel is removed from your teeth. Because enamel does not regenerate, your teeth will always require a veneer or crown to protect them.

Does getting veneers hurt?

The process of getting veneers is generally not painful. Dr. Miely uses a local anesthetic to numb your teeth before removing the enamel. Any temporary sensitivity after the procedure can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

How do I care for my new veneers?

Caring for your new veneers is simple. You can brush and floss them just like natural teeth. We recommend using a non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush to maintain their shine. Regular dental checkups and cleanings are also essential for keeping your entire smile healthy.

What is the difference between veneers and crowns?

A veneer is a thin porcelain shell that covers only the front surface of the tooth to address cosmetic issues. A dental crown, on the other hand, covers the entire tooth and is used to restore teeth that are significantly damaged or decayed.
